About Me

My name is Anson and I'm a freelance photographer based in Chicago! I've been taking photos since 2015. It's so important to me to capture the vibe without being intrusive or making things too contrived.

I do a lot of concert photography. My photos have appeared in The Intercept, FADER, Go Mag, and SixtySix Magazine. I've been hired by artists, venues, labels, management, brands, and others.

Please feel free to reach out with any interest in collaborating - I can do band promo, pre/post show portraits, concerts, BTS, headshots, couples shoots, portraits, grad photos, events, pet photos, etc.! Happy to provide more examples of my work if you're looking for something specific.

I am also a freelance writer - you can subscribe to my newsletter Third Thing or check out other recent publications here.

In my free time, I can usually be found spoiling my dog, crocheting, watching TV, reading a book, gossiping with friends, or baking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will you shoot my [elopement/dog's birthday party/funeral/etc.]?

A: I'm down for pretty much anything. I just ask that you take a look at my work beforehand so you have a sense of my style and approach to photography.

Q: How long will a photo session take?

A: Most portraits (individual, couples, groups) take 1 to 1.5 hours. If there are multiple locations and/or outfits, then they'll probably take longer. I'll give you an estimate once we've discussed what you're looking for.

Q: Is there a hard limit on how many photos you will deliver?

A: No, I will give you all the photos I made that I believe are high quality. I can ballpark minimum amounts of photos given details of the job.

Q: When will I receive the photos from my session?

A: For portraits and events, usually within the week. For concerts, within 24-48 hours. If you have specific turnaround time needs, please let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.

Q: How will photos be sent to me?

A: I will send a download link via either Dropbox Transfer or Pixieset.

Q: Is photo editing included?

A: Yes, photo editing is pretty much always included unless we've come to a specific, explicit agreement otherwise. Like most professional photographers, I generally do not provide RAWs.

Q: Do you sell prints of your concert photos?

A: It depends! If there's a specific photo you're interested in, please reach out via the contact form and I can let you know whether I'm able to.

Q: How did you get into concert photography?

A: After getting a little burnt out on portraits and events, I took a break and then got back into photography through concerts. I started out at local venues that didn't have camera rules (shoutout to Beat Kitchen) and/or by DMing artists to get their permission, then joined some publications and shot as press. Now, my work is a combination of working with artists, venues, labels, and publications.
